Driver Arrested After Staging Rs 5 Lakh Gunpoint Robbery In Sector-26 Rohini

The Delhi Police arrested a 42-year-old driver on Friday after he allegedly fabricated a story about a gunpoint robbery of Rs 5 lakh in Sector-26, Rohini, and hid the cash under his car's bonnet. The suspect, identified as Gurnaam Singh, was taken into custody by officers from the KNK Marg police station after investigators uncovered the hoax.

According to the police, the incident began when a PCR call was received on Friday at the KNK Marg police station. The caller, Singh, claimed that a bag containing Rs 5 lakh had been robbed at gunpoint by three unidentified persons travelling in an SUV near an apartment in Sector-26, Rohini.

Singh told the police officers that he had been working as a driver and helper at a spare parts workshop at Kashmere Gate for a decade. He claimed that on the day of the incident, his employer had instructed him to collect the money from the workshop and deliver the amount to Sector 14, Rohini.

However, the subsequent police investigation did not support Singh's version of events. Cops conducting the probe found no evidence of a Thar SUV tailing the complainant as he had claimed.

During a search of Singh's vehicle, police officers discovered a cloth bag hidden beneath the bonnet of his car. The bag, which contained the "stolen" Rs 5 lakh, was found tied near the battery compartment of the vehicle.

When confronted with the recovered cash, Singh allegedly confessed to the police that he had fabricated the entire robbery story after concealing the money in the car. He further disclosed to investigators that he was facing financial difficulties, which led him to make the false PCR call.

Following the confession and the recovery of the Rs 5 lakh, Singh was arrested and placed behind bars.
