DJB Tells NGT Tenders for 4 Wastewater Plants Will Finish in 2 Months

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) through a status report that the tender process for developing four wastewater treatment plants in Fatehpur Beri, Ghitorni, Asola, and Rangpuri is currently underway and is likely to be completed within two months.

The status report was submitted by the water utility following an NGT order dated May 12, 2026. In that order, the tribunal had pointed out that DJB had not submitted required timelines for making sewage treatment plants (STPs) operational within the Vasant Kunj catchment area and its adjoining south Delhi neighborhoods.

Addressing the tribunal's directives, DJB stated that the tender for the four proposed treatment facilities is presently under technical evaluation. The board noted that the tender conditions stipulate a total construction timeline of 630 days for completing the plants.

Alongside details on the treatment plants, DJB provided updates regarding work for providing and laying sewer lines in Chattarpur extension, Jaunapur, and Mahipalpur. The water utility stated that the sewer project carries an estimated value of approximately ₹245.65 crore, with a stipulated completion timeline of 820 days. The board highlighted in its submission, however, that all the timelines submitted in the report are tentative.

The status report further responded to previous observations by the tribunal regarding missing information on two STPs installed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in Vasant Kunj's E-1 and E-2 pockets.

Clarifying the setup, DJB stated in its response that the residential society in E-2 block possesses an in-situ STP that was constructed and is currently operated by the DDA. The board informed the tribunal that treated wastewater originating from this facility is being discharged through a drain into a local Johad, or pond.
