Delhi University Opens Direct PhD Admissions for First FYUP Batch

NEW DELHI — Delhi University has announced a direct admission route to PhD programmes as a one-time measure for students who completed the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) this year.

According to a university press release issued on Friday, the special provision applies strictly to the inaugural batch of FYUP graduates for the 2026-27 academic session. Under the guidelines, general category candidates with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 7.5 and above, and SC/ST candidates with 7.0 CGPA and above, are eligible to apply directly for doctoral programmes.

Delhi University Registrar Vikas Gupta stated that eligible candidates will be required to appear for an entrance examination, with the dates to be announced soon. Aspirants applying through this direct route will not be required to appear for an interview.

Gupta explained that the concession was introduced specifically to address teething issues encountered by the inaugural batch of the four-year programme. He noted that the measure will not automatically apply to future batches, adding that modalities will be decided at a later stage if the provision is to be extended.

To facilitate the process, the university has also amended its PhD ordinance to permit eligible FYUP graduates meeting the specified CGPA criteria to seek direct entry into research programmes.
