Delhi University Announces DUSU Elections to Be Held on September 18
Delhi University has announced that the elections for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) office-bearers and members of the Central Council for the 2026–27 session will take place on September 18.
According to an official notification signed by DU registrar Vikas Gupta, candidates contesting for DUSU office-bearer posts must submit their nomination papers by September 10. The papers must be deposited in a sealed box kept at the office of the chief election officer in North Campus between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm on any working day. Students seeking election to Central Council seats are required to submit their nomination forms directly to their respective colleges or departments.
The university will release the final list of contesting candidates on September 11. Polling will take place a week later on September 18, followed by the counting of votes on September 19, with the final results scheduled to be declared the same day.
On polling day, voting will be conducted in two separate time slots depending on college operating hours. Students attending morning-shift colleges will cast their votes from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, while those in evening-shift colleges will vote between 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Delhi University comprises around 92 colleges in total, with nearly 47 of those institutions currently affiliated with DUSU.
Preparations for the election process began earlier this month when DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, acting in his capacity as the Patron of DUSU, appointed Professor Raj Kishore Sharma from the department of chemistry as the chief election officer on August 5. Professor Rajesh Singh, the university librarian, was appointed to serve as the chief returning officer to oversee the 2026–27 election cycle.
In addition, the university has designated the principals and heads of all affiliated colleges and institutions as election officers responsible for managing and conducting the polling process for both office-bearers and Central Council members within their respective campuses.
