Delhi Traffic Police to Target Specific Violations Daily Across 62 Congestion Hotspots

Delhi Traffic Police will launch a targeted enforcement initiative called "Drive of the Day" to tackle specific traffic violations and reduce bottlenecks across designated congestion hotspots in the capital, including Bhavbhuti Marg, Kashmere Gate, Madhuban Chowk, Anand Vihar, South Extension, and Punjabi Bagh.

Under the new plan, police teams will focus each day on one specific traffic issue at a particular location rather than waiting for multiple violations to build up along troublesome stretches. A total of 62 congestion hotspots across Delhi have been identified for this focused enforcement.

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhary explained that the initiative is designed to isolate the exact cause of gridlock at each spot. Depending on the location, enforcement teams will focus on issues such as wrong-side driving, illegal parking, roadside obstructions, stray cattle, unauthorised stoppages, or vehicles blocking crucial road space.

According to the traffic police, the strategy aims to prevent the chain reaction that typically triggers major traffic jams. Individual infractions—such as a vehicle parked on a carriageway, an auto-rickshaw stopping in the middle of the road, or motorists driving on the wrong side—quickly reduce available road space and slow down hundreds of vehicles trailing behind them.

By addressing the specific road-use patterns and violations that turn these key stretches into regular bottlenecks, the department aims to improve daily traffic movement across the city's major corridors.
