Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory for Janmashtami Shobha Yatra in Paharganj
Traffic movement across the Paharganj area in Delhi is expected to remain heavy and slow from 10 am onwards on Thursday, September 3, due to the Shri Krishna Janmashtami Shobha Yatra. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory alerting motorists about widespread slowdowns and recommending alternative routes along several key corridors.
In an advisory published on social media platform X, the traffic police noted that more than 2,000 devotees, accompanied by raths and jhankis, are scheduled to take part in the procession. The movement of the large religious gathering is expected to restrict regular vehicular transit through Paharganj and surrounding roads from the morning onward.
According to the police, traffic movement is likely to remain heavily congested on Rani Jhansi Road, Desh Bandhu Gupta (DBG) Road, Chelmsford Road, Panchkuiya Road, and adjoining stretches. Authorities urged motorists and commuters to plan their journeys in advance and completely avoid the affected corridors wherever possible.
The advisory specifically warned motorists to avoid DBG Road and Ajmal Khan Road between 1 pm and 7 pm. Drivers needing to transit through the area during those afternoon and evening hours were asked to take alternative routes, including Faiz Road and Minto Road, depending on their final destinations and prevailing traffic conditions. Commuters were also asked to follow the directions of traffic police personnel deployed on duty and comply with traffic signs and regulations.
Alongside the arrangements for the procession in Paharganj, police confirmed that traffic and security measures have been instituted at the Laxmi Narain Mandir, popularly known as Birla Mandir, in central Delhi ahead of Janmashtami celebrations on September 4. Devotees visiting the temple will be permitted entry through Mandir Marg, which can be reached via Kali Bari Marg or Peshwa Road. Footwear deposit counters have been arranged near Kali Bari Marg and beside the Hindu Maha Sabha office on Peshwa Road.
