Delhi PWD to Repair Nehru Nagar, AIIMS, and Barapullah Flyovers for Rs 1.4 Crore
The Public Works Department is set to carry out repair and rehabilitation work on three key flyovers in Delhi—Nehru Nagar, AIIMS, and Barapullah Phase-I—at an estimated cost of around Rs 1.4 crore. The project aims to improve safety and riding quality across these major elevated corridors.
The maintenance initiative will focus on replacing worn single-strip seal expansion joints, rectifying bearings, and installing a height barrier. Expansion joints are critical components that allow concrete sections to expand and contract with temperature fluctuations while absorbing movement caused by regular vehicular traffic. Under the proposed plan, the existing single-strip seal expansion joints will be dismantled and replaced across all three flyovers.
The three structures represent important links in the capital's road network, catering to significant traffic flow across south and east Delhi.
The Nehru Nagar flyover was originally built in 1969 and was later widened in 2003. It carries traffic moving between Ring Road and Mathura Road, helping ease vehicular movement through the busy Ashram Chowk area. As part of the upcoming work, steel height barriers will also be installed at the Nehru Nagar flyover.
The AIIMS flyover, constructed in 2003, provides seamless connectivity to key parts of south Delhi and Ring Road, allowing commuters to bypass the busy AIIMS intersection.
Barapullah Phase-I was opened in 2010 and connects Sarai Kale Khan with the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium area, functioning as a major road link between east and south Delhi.
