Delhi PWD Plans Four New Foot Overbridges With Lifts at Katwaria Sarai and Other Roads

The Public Works Department (PWD) is planning to construct four new foot overbridges (FOBs) equipped with lifts across busy corridors in Delhi, including Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg at Katwaria Sarai, to improve pedestrian safety.
The proposed FOB at Katwaria Sarai will feature both a staircase and a passenger lift. The lift will be fitted with a regenerative drive to make the crossing fully accessible for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other pedestrians who face difficulty using stairs.
To ensure barrier-free movement, the lift will include voice announcements indicating floor positions, handrails, and vision panels on the doors to assist people with hearing impairments in seeking help. The system will also be equipped with emergency messaging and alarm features.
Safety measures planned for the lift include fire-rated landing doors, overload and overspeed protection, CCTV surveillance, and intercom connectivity. It will also be fitted with battery-backed emergency lighting and fan operations, a pit ladder, and provisions for manual rescue in case electronic systems fail.
In addition to the Katwaria Sarai project, the PWD is planning to construct FOBs at three other busy locations: at Shahbad Dairy on Badli Bawana Road, near the A 2 Block Jeevan Park Bus Stand, and near Mata Chanan Devi Hospital on Pankha Road in Janakpuri.
