Delhi Polling Stations Rise to 14,947 Following EC Rationalisation Drive
NEW DELHI — The number of polling stations across Delhi has increased to 14,947 from 13,033 following a rationalisation exercise conducted under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) announced on Monday.
Alongside the rise in individual polling stations, the total number of polling-station locations across the national capital's 70 Assembly constituencies has increased from 2,696 to 2,856.
The restructuring of booths was undertaken in line with directives from the Election Commission of India (EC). To enhance voter convenience on election days, the poll body decided to reduce the maximum limit of electors assigned to each polling station from 1,500 to 1,200.
Across the city's 13 districts, North East Delhi now accounts for the highest number of polling stations. The district has been allocated 1,829 polling booths spread across 321 distinct locations.
In contrast, the New Delhi district recorded the lowest number of polling booths in the capital, with 214 polling stations set up following the rationalisation process.
The ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise has also identified significant shifts in the city's voter registry. More than 47 lakh voters out of Delhi's total electorate of 1.45 crore are set to be excluded from the upcoming draft electoral rolls, which are scheduled for publication on August 31.
According to electoral officials, the enumeration forms for these voters were marked as "uncollectable" during a comprehensive door-to-door verification drive that concluded on August 17.
