Delhi Police trace vehicle and identify explosives in Red Fort blast probe

A major investigation is underway in New Delhi following a car explosion near the historic Red Fort, with authorities tracing the vehicle's journey and identifying the chemical components used in the blast.

Forensic analysis of the scene has provided key breakthroughs for investigators. Forensic teams confirmed that the improvised explosive device (IED) used in the vehicle explosion contained a mixture of TATP and ammonium nitrate. Following the identification of these chemical components, investigators were able to trace and locate the specific shops where the raw materials for the explosives had been sourced. These forensic breakthroughs were documented between November 14 and November 16, 2025.

In addition to the forensic findings, investigators have mapped out what has been termed the "i20 route." The vehicle used in the explosion, a Hyundai i20, has been traced back to a resident of Pulwama. According to tracking data, the vehicle entered the National Capital Region after passing through the Badarpur toll plaza on November 12, 2025. Tracking the precise movement of the vehicle has helped authorities establish a clear timeline of its entry into the city prior to the incident.

The impact of the blast also prompted administrative action to assist affected citizens. The Delhi Police compiled a comprehensive list of individuals whose vehicles were damaged or destroyed in the incident. On December 4, 2025, this list was officially forwarded to the Finance Ministry. This measure was taken to facilitate and expedite the processing of insurance claims for the owners who were caught in the blast.

The investigation, which spanned throughout November and December of 2025, remains a central focus for local law enforcement as they work to establish accountability and map the full timeline of the incident near the Red Fort.
