Delhi Police Suspends Head Constable After Viral Video Shows Liquor in PCR Van
Delhi Police has suspended a Head Constable and initiated action against a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) driver after a video showing a policeman allegedly holding a liquor bottle inside a Police Control Room (PCR) van circulated widely on social media.
The department launched an enquiry after taking cognisance of the viral video, which was posted on social media platform X by user Sunny Singh. The clip prompted several users to tag official Delhi Police handles and demand strict action over the alleged misconduct by personnel on duty.
Responding to the posts, DCP PCR Delhi stated that an enquiry into the incident had already been conducted by the department. Officials identified the staff members involved as a Delhi Police Head Constable and a DTC driver.
The police confirmed that the Head Constable was placed under immediate suspension, while the DTC driver was attached to the Lines. The department added that the Delhi Transport Corporation would initiate separate departmental action against the driver for the alleged violation.
"Delhi Police does not endorse or tolerate any form of misconduct. Appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible," the DCP PCR Delhi account stated.
Following the announcement of the disciplinary measures, Singh questioned whether the action taken was sufficient. The Delhi Traffic Police handle subsequently intervened, requesting the user to provide the exact location, date, and time of the recorded incident to assist with further verification.
Singh replied that he could not provide the exact date and time, though he mentioned that the video appeared to have been recorded a day or two earlier. He maintained that he had obtained the recording from social media and stated that it was genuine.
Delhi Traffic Police stated that the verification process is expected to be completed promptly so that strict and impartial action can be finalized against guilty personnel, noting that timely action is necessary to maintain public trust.
