Delhi Police Special Cell Arrests Couple for Aiding Pakistan-Linked Espionage Network

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested a city-based couple for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities, including the bulk supply of Indian SIM cards used by Pakistan-linked entities to conduct espionage operations.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 25-year-old Mohammed Sahil and 21-year-old Sameera, who works as a BPO executive. According to police officials, the SIM cards procured by the couple were utilized by operatives backed by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to activate WhatsApp accounts and carry out intelligence-gathering tasks.

The arrests followed an investigation into sleeper cells and support networks operating in the region. Police teams had been gathering actionable intelligence regarding logistical channels facilitating foreign intelligence operatives.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Narra Chaitanya stated that investigators zeroed in on the suspects through technical surveillance. The operation was executed by a team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Northern Range) Rahul.

According to police findings, the espionage arrangement began in 2024. Investigators revealed that Sameera was initially contacted by ISI-backed entities and subsequently introduced her husband to the Pakistani contact via the social media platform Instagram.

The online contact later connected the couple with a senior intelligence officer. Police stated that the handler cultivated the duo by promising steady financial compensation in exchange for operational and logistical support inside the country, including the procurement and provision of communication resources.
