Delhi Police Issue Traffic Advisory for Vasant Kunj Rath Yatra on July 16

The Delhi Traffic Police have put in place special traffic arrangements and regulations in Vasant Kunj on July 16, 2026, to facilitate the Rath Yatra procession. The religious event, also known as the Gundicha Yatra, is expected to draw festival participants and impact regular vehicular movement in the area.
According to the official advisory issued by the traffic department, vehicular movement on Mehrauli–Mahipalpur Road is likely to remain slow. The slow traffic and sporadic regulations will be particularly concentrated near D-2 Vasant Kunj and the Vasant Square Mall vicinity. These traffic restrictions and slow movements are scheduled to take place between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM on July 16, 2026.
In light of the expected delays, the Delhi Traffic Police have advised all commuters and motorists to plan their journeys in advance. Drivers are requested to allow extra travel time when traveling through or near the affected stretches of Vasant Kunj during the four-hour festival window.
The advisory also highlights strict guidelines regarding vehicle parking to prevent bottlenecks. Motorists are instructed to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas. The police have urged the public to completely avoid roadside parking along the entire procession route, which could otherwise block the movement of both the Rath Yatra and other vehicles.
The primary areas expected to experience slow traffic include Mehrauli–Mahipalpur Road, specifically the stretch near D-2 Vasant Kunj, and the Vasant Square Mall vicinity. The traffic police stated that sporadic regulations will be enforced as needed on these roads to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure the safety of all festival participants.
Commuters are advised to stay updated on the latest traffic conditions and route changes through official Delhi Traffic Police communication channels.
