Delhi Police Issue Traffic Advisory for Independence Day Rehearsal on August 13

Delhi Traffic Police on Tuesday issued a comprehensive traffic advisory announcing road closures and diversions across Central Delhi, including alternate routes passing through Connaught Place, for the Independence Day full-dress rehearsal scheduled for Thursday, August 13.

Seven major road stretches will remain closed for general traffic from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. on August 13. The affected routes include Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk, Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail Chowk, SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort, Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg, and Ring Road from Rajghat to Kashmere Gate interstate bus terminal (ISBT). Only vehicles carrying valid parking labels and official permission will be permitted on these seven stretches.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (central range traffic) Nishant Gupta stated that vehicles without authorised parking labels for the rehearsal should avoid areas such as C-Hexagon India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J.L. Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh bypass.

For motorists travelling between north and south Delhi, the traffic police suggested alternate routes. One suggested path passes through Connaught Place, Minto Road, Bhavbhuti Marg, Ajmeri Gate, Shradhanand Marg, Lahori Gate Chowk, Naya Bazar, Peeli Kothi, and S.P. Mukherjee Marg up to Old Delhi railway station. Another option involves travelling through Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, S Marg, 11 Murti, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, Panchkuian Road, and Rani Jhansi Road. Motorists can also travel via Nizamuddin Bridge across the Yamuna, Pushta Road, G.T. Road, and Yudhister Setu to ISBT.

For east and west Delhi connectivity, suggested routes include Vikas Marg, IP Marg, DDU Marg, and Minto Road via Connaught Place or Ajmeri Gate onto DBG Road. Other routes include NH-24 (NH-9), Barapulla Road, DND, or Ring Road corridors. DCP Gupta added that the Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed, while restrictions on commercial transport and interstate buses will be enforced from the midnight of August 12 until 11 a.m. on August 13.
