Delhi Police Head Constable Arrested Over Colleague's Suicide at Sahibabad Hotel

Ghaziabad police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old head constable with the Delhi Police on charges of abetting the suicide of his 37-year-old woman colleague at a hotel in Sahibabad.

The victim, who was also a head constable with the Delhi Police, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a Sahibabad hotel room on August 16. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as ante-mortem hanging, and no suicide note was recovered from the room, officials said.

According to police investigations, the victim had checked into the hotel alone around 7:15 pm on August 15. The suspect was seen on surveillance cameras entering her room at 10:03 pm and leaving at approximately 10:45 pm that night.

Amit Saxena, assistant commissioner of police (Sahibabad), said the suspect claimed during questioning that he was with his wife on the evening of the incident when the victim pressured him to meet her at the hotel. The suspect stated that he left after 40 minutes, after which the victim died by suicide. The suspect, who is married with three children, told police that he and the victim became friends while working together in Delhi, but he could not marry her as they belonged to different castes.

Hotel records examined by investigators revealed that both individuals had frequented the establishment regularly, with 33 check-in entries logged over the past year. Hotel staff discovered the woman's body the following morning on August 16.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim's family, an FIR was registered at the Sahibabad police station on August 17. The case was filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 108 for abetting suicide and 69 for sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means.

In the FIR, the victim's father stated that his daughter had informed her mother on August 14 about ongoing harassment by the suspect. The father alleged that the suspect had exploited his daughter while claiming to be unmarried, causing her severe distress in the days leading up to her death.

Both the victim and the suspect were residents of Ghaziabad. Police officials confirmed that further investigation into the case is currently underway.
