Delhi Police File 20 FIRs Over CJP Protest Violence at Jantar Mantar

At least 20 FIRs have been registered in connection with violence during the CJP protest, including two cases filed at the Parliament Street police station over alleged damage to and theft of CCTV cameras around the Jantar Mantar protest site in New Delhi.

Police officers confirmed on Monday that security personnel and media persons sustained injuries during the CJP protest-related violence. Police confirmed the registration of five specific cases, including two concerning the theft and damage of public CCTV cameras.

According to a police officer, multiple videos surfaced showing protesters using sticks and rods to break CCTV cameras at Jantar Mantar and on adjoining roads. Protesters were also seen taking the cameras away with them. Police registered the cases to identify the culprits and recover the stolen public property.

The CJP called off its agitation on Saturday afternoon after the Centre accepted its demands. However, police officers declined to comment on whether the five cases were registered before or after the agitation was called off.

An officer stated on Monday that the police force had not received any official communication from the Centre regarding the withdrawal of the registered cases, adding that future police action will depend on government directions.

Meanwhile, a social media post circulated on Monday alleging that right-wing activists assaulted a CJP supporter in Delhi and Noida. Attached video footage showed individuals assaulting a teenager in the presence of police personnel near Jantar Mantar. Police officers did not respond to requests seeking confirmation or details regarding the post.
