Delhi Police Digitally Map 20,000 Properties Near Red Fort Ahead of I-Day
Delhi Police has digitally mapped and verified more than 20,000 houses, offices, hotels, and guest houses in and around the Red Fort ahead of Independence Day. The extensive occupant verification exercise in the sensitive zone forms part of heightened security arrangements across the area.
The household and occupant verification drive, undertaken by the Central range of Delhi Police, aims to establish an accurate census of premises and occupants in the designated sensitive event zone. The process ensures that residents, tenants, domestic helpers, and employees are documented and verified.
Police officers stated that this year's security preparations have increasingly integrated technology alongside physical surveillance and checks at vulnerable locations. Security measures include the use of the eParikshan mobile application, body-worn cameras, and AI-enabled glasses.
The eParikshan application has replaced the traditional paper-based verification system. Beat officers can use the application to gather and update premises and occupant records even in areas without an active internet connection.
According to a senior police officer, the application utilizes GPS-based location tagging, real-time photographs, and a unique identification number for each mapped property. The system maintains an edit history and audit trail, enabling officers to track approved, pending, and declined premises while providing separate access workflows for administrators, beat officers, and police station officers.
During the verification process, officers collect and record specific information, including the premises identification number, resident names, dates of birth, fathers' names, Aadhaar numbers, mobile numbers, full addresses, premises and user categories, employment details, photographs, and official remarks.
Police confirmed that more than 20,000 tenant and domestic-helper verification records have been completed in north Delhi, while approximately 10,000 records have been digitised in central Delhi.
In addition to digital mapping, police personnel have scanned more than 1,000 CCTV cameras in the vicinity, inspected the functioning of AI-enabled cameras, and conducted security checks across parking lots located around the monument.
