Delhi Police Detain Several CJP Protesters During Chalo Sansad March
On Monday, Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel detained several protesters from Mandi House, Jantar Mantar, Patel Chowk, Janpath, and Parliament Street in the New Delhi district to prevent them from marching towards Parliament. The security crackdown was launched to stop demonstrators participating in the CJP's 'Chalo Sansad' march from assembling in the high-security zone.
According to sources, at least seven protesters were detained near the Reserve Bank of India, located close to Parliament. The security agencies intensified their efforts across central Delhi as protesters attempted to gather despite prohibitory orders being in force.
To prevent the demonstrators from regrouping and disrupting law and order, those detained were shifted to different locations across the national capital, away from the protest sites. Sources stated that the detainees would be released after being issued warnings. Additionally, police officials said they would verify the antecedents of those detained to check for any prior criminal records.
The New Delhi district remained on high alert throughout the day. Security measures included multi-layered barricading, heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces, and intensified vehicle checks at key intersections and border points. Several senior police officers, including joint commissioners of police, were present on the ground to monitor the situation and ensure that protesters did not breach the security barricades.
During the demonstration, the CJP alleged that its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, was detained by the Delhi Police while participating in the march. CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das claimed on X that Dipke had been picked up by the authorities during the crackdown.
Das wrote on the platform, "Dipke has been picked up by the police! We request all MPs to immediately stand in support of the students on the streets! The police is brutally cracking down and beating up peaceful protesters."
The Delhi Police did not immediately respond to the CJP's allegations regarding Dipke's detention.
