Delhi Police Deny Permission for September 5 CJP Protest at India Gate
The Delhi Police have drawn up a multi-layered security plan across central Delhi, including India Gate and the Police Headquarters, ahead of a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janta Party on September 5, stressing that no permission has been granted for any gathering.
Security personnel will be stationed at Delhi's inter-state borders, along the periphery of New Delhi district, at India Gate, Police Headquarters (PHQ), and on key approach routes. Police officials said the primary focus will be on preventing large crowds from gathering and filtering out demonstrators before they reach the proposed protest locations.
The deployment strategy involves coordination with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), alongside dedicated detention teams and transport buses kept on standby. A dedicated control room will monitor real-time inputs from field units, while the Special Cell conducts technical surveillance, including drone monitoring and analysis of call-detail records and tower dumps where legally sanctioned.
Law and order units across districts have been instructed to identify participants from the July 20 Jantar Mantar protest using facial-recognition systems. Police personnel have been directed to visit the homes of identified participants to issue advisories against attending the September 5 demonstration and document compliance. Preventive action is also planned under Sections 107 and 116 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), alongside potential prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS.
To restrict movement, Delhi Police are coordinating with forces in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan for mirror picketing and barricading on arterial and link roads. The police will also coordinate with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to regulate transit around the protest zones. App-based food and delivery services are likely to be suspended within a five-kilometre radius on the day of the protest. Emergency corridors will remain open, with coordination established across hospitals including AIIMS, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Lok Nayak Jai Prakash.
The Cockroach Janta Party called for the demonstration over the central government's failure to withdraw FIRs against student protesters following assurances given after July demonstrations. The Supreme Court declined on Monday to pass an order against the central Delhi gathering.
CJP co-convenor Saurav Das stated that the demonstration would remain peaceful and maintained that barricades would not deter participants, questioning the requirement of obtaining state permission to hold a protest.
