Delhi Police Arrest Woman for Cheating Senior Citizen of Gold Jewellery in Mundka

Delhi Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly duping an elderly woman of her gold jewellery in Friends Enclave, Mundka, in northwest Delhi. The accused, identified as Maina, was apprehended from the Raghubir Nagar area on Sunday following an investigation into the cheating incident that occurred on July 29.

According to the police, the incident took place when the elderly victim was walking to a nearby vegetable market in Friends Enclave. Maina, accompanied by a 10-year-old minor boy, approached the senior citizen and claimed that the child had stolen a bundle of currency notes from his employer.

The accused allegedly persuaded the elderly woman to take the bundle of money for safekeeping in exchange for her gold chain and ear tops, claiming the cash could otherwise be confiscated from the boy. The victim handed over her gold ornaments to the accused, only to discover later that the bundle contained fake currency notes. By the time she realized the fraud, Maina and the minor boy had fled the spot.

Following the incident, the victim reported the matter to the authorities, and an FIR was registered at the Mundka police station on July 30. Investigators examined footage from nearby CCTV cameras to trace the suspects and gather intelligence on their movements.

A police team, assisted by women police personnel, subsequently tracked down Maina and arrested her from Raghubir Nagar on Sunday. During interrogation, Maina revealed the involvement of another woman, identified as Puja, a resident of TC Camp. Maina disclosed to investigators that she had handed over the stolen jewellery to Puja to be sold.

Police teams conducted a raid at Puja's residence at TC Camp, but she was not present at the location. Authorities confirmed that efforts are currently underway to trace and apprehend Puja, recover the stolen gold ornaments, and determine the exact role played by the minor boy in the crime. Further investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
