Delhi Police arrest wanted criminal Irshad Ali after shootout in Narela

A 26-year-old repeat offender wanted in at least 49 criminal cases was arrested on Thursday following a gunfight with the Delhi Police near Sannoth village in the Narela industrial area. The accused, identified by the police as Irshad Ali, who also goes by the alias Sukar Ali, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg during the exchange of fire.
The operation was carried out by the Delhi Police's anti-auto theft squad (AATS). Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer-north) Shobhit D Saksena said that the AATS members had received credible information regarding the movement of a repeat offender in the Narela industrial area. Acting on this tip-off, a raiding team was deployed to intercept the suspect.
When the raiding team spotted Irshad Ali riding a motorcycle in the area, they signaled him to stop and surrender. However, instead of complying with the police orders, Ali attempted to flee from the spot. In his bid to escape, the accused fired two bullets at the police personnel.
The police team fired four bullets in self-defence, one of which hit Ali in his left leg. Following the shootout, Ali was apprehended by the police. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where doctors declared that he was out of danger.
According to the police, Ali is a resident of JJ Colony in Bawana. He has a long criminal record, with involvement in numerous cases including robbery, snatching, theft, and attempt to murder.
Out of the 49 previously registered cases against Ali, police officials stated that at least 40 were related to snatching and theft. Additionally, he has been linked to two robbery cases, two culpable homicide cases, and one case involving an attempt to murder and assault on a public servant.
