Delhi Police arrest two from Mewat, bust inter-state mule SIM card racket

Delhi Police have arrested two men from Ferozpur Jhirka in Mewat, Haryana, for allegedly running an inter-state mule SIM card racket that supplied fraudulently procured SIM cards to cyber criminals. The accused have been identified as 22-year-old Manoj and 23-year-old Yash Saini. Both were arrested on July 22 after law enforcement officers conducted technical surveillance and gathered field intelligence.

The action follows an investigation into a cyber fraud incident handled by Central Delhi police, where a complainant was duped out of around Rs 1.1 lakh. According to investigators, the fraudster reached out to the victim while posing as an acquaintance named Manoj.

The scammer claimed that he had mistakenly transferred money while attempting to clear hospital bills for a relative. He then persuaded the victim to return the funds by scanning a QR code. After the money was transferred, the victim realized it was a cyber fraud and filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).

Providing details about the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh said that the money transfer was identified as part of a cyber fraud network, which prompted the subsequent investigation and technical tracking.

During police interrogation, Manoj allegedly confessed to selling SIM cards registered in his own name to Yash Saini. Manoj revealed to officers that he had provided around 10 to 15 SIM cards to Saini.

According to police, Saini procured SIM cards locally and systematically manipulated subscriber details to prevent detection by law enforcement authorities. Once processed, he supplied these SIM cards to cyber crime syndicates operating out of the Mewat region.

Police officials said they are currently verifying whether Manoj and Yash Saini were involved in other cyber crime cases. Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend other members belonging to the wider criminal syndicate.
