Delhi Police arrest three men for robbing taxi driver of Ertiga in Welcome area

The Delhi Police have arrested three men in connection with the robbery of a taxi driver who was deprived of his Maruti Ertiga car and mobile phone in Northeast Delhi. The incident began near the Lakdi Market Puliya in the Welcome area and concluded near the Bhopura Border.

The robbery occurred on June 22 at around 7:30 PM. The arrests were made more than two weeks after the crime took place, following an investigation by the local police.

The victim, a taxi driver named Parvez from the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, was waiting for passengers near Lakdi Market Puliya when three allegedly intoxicated men hired his cab. The passengers requested a ride to Loni Gol Chakkar.

During the journey, the men allegedly intimidated Parvez by invoking the name of a known criminal. One of the suspects then forcibly pushed the driver out of his seat and took control of the vehicle. Upon reaching the Bhopura Border, the suspects threw Parvez out of the car and fled with the Maruti Ertiga. The driver's mobile phone, which was left inside the vehicle, was also stolen.

Following the incident, a robbery case was registered at the Welcome police station. To track down the suspects, investigators analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene and along the suspected escape route. They also relied on technical surveillance and local intelligence to identify the accused.

The police identified and arrested the three suspects as Mehtab, 29, Aman, 22, and Mohammad Faisal, 23.

According to the police, some of the arrested individuals have prior criminal records. Mehtab, a resident of Bhopura, has five previous criminal cases against him, including murder, attempt to murder, and offences under the Arms Act. Aman, a resident of the Welcome area, has four previous cases registered against him.

The police confirmed that both the robbed Maruti Ertiga and the victim's mobile phone have been successfully recovered.
