Delhi Police Arrest Man With 3,000 Quarters of Illicit Liquor in Tilak Nagar

The Delhi Police Special Staff of West District has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly smuggling illicit liquor from Sonipat in Haryana into various parts of the capital, uncovering links to a supplier based in Vijay Vihar in Rohini.

The suspect, identified as Saurabh Gupta, a resident of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was intercepted on August 18 along the Outer Ring Road near Tilak Nagar while driving a white Hyundai i10 Grand packed with contraband.

Police officials said the Special Staff had received actionable intelligence regarding a car transporting illicit liquor from the Outer Ring Road toward Tilak Nagar. Acting on the tip-off, a police team set up a trap on the service road near Pillar Number 26 and the CRPF Camp Wall in Tilak Nagar. The vehicle was intercepted as it approached from the Peeragarhi side.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 3,000 quarters of illicit liquor packed inside 60 cartons. Officers seized the consignment along with the Hyundai i10 Grand used for the transportation.

During interrogation, Gupta told investigators that he had connected with a liquor supplier named Rohan from Vijay Vihar in Rohini approximately two months ago. Under the arrangement, Gupta traveled to Sonipat, where an associate named Mubarik arranged the vehicle and the liquor stock sourced from local outlets across the border.

Investigators said Gupta worked as a driver for the syndicate on a fixed monthly salary. Over the past two months, he regularly transported illicit consignments into Delhi and delivered them to locations including Tilak Nagar, Vikaspuri, Rajouri Garden, and Anand Parbat based on Rohan's instructions.

A case has been registered under the Delhi Excise Act at Tilak Nagar Police Station, and Gupta was placed under formal arrest. Police teams are currently conducting further investigations to trace the alleged main supplier, Rohan, and identify other members operating within the supply network.
