Delhi Police arrest five after extortion shooting at Paharganj builder office

The Delhi Police have arrested five men following an armed extortion attempt and shooting at a private builder's office in the Arya Nagar area of Paharganj in Central Delhi. The incident, which occurred on June 29, was part of a planned interstate criminal conspiracy designed to intimidate and extort local businessmen and builders in the area.
According to the police, the confrontation began when an armed man allegedly broke into the builder's office in Arya Nagar. Once inside, the suspect demanded a total extortion payment of Rs 30 lakh, which included an immediate payment of Rs 5 lakh. The armed man threatened the builder by stating that his accomplices were waiting nearby to assist him.
When the private builder refused to comply with the extortion demands, the accused opened fire inside the office and fled. Following the shooting, the victim reported the incident, and a case was registered at the local Nabi Karim police station.
During the subsequent investigation, the police arrested five individuals. The arrested suspects have been identified as Pawan Kumar, who goes by the alias Pawan Pehelwan; Shakti Singh; Vishal Bhati, also known as Bhanja; Pawan Kumar, who goes by the alias Pawan Chetli; and Rajesh Sachdeva, also known as Sonu Mota.
The police investigation revealed that the attack was a carefully planned interstate criminal conspiracy. The prime accused, Pawan Pehelwan, who claimed to be a financier, allegedly orchestrated the firing. Investigators stated that his motive was to establish himself as an active extortionist by creating a sense of fear among the builders and businessmen operating in the Paharganj area.
Furthermore, the probe revealed that Pawan Chetli, a local builder and hotelier, along with his accomplice Rajesh Sachdeva, facilitated the entire conspiracy. The duo allegedly assisted the gang by arranging accommodation and meeting places. They also gathered and shared crucial information regarding the complainant and his family members to aid the operation.
