Delhi Police Arrest 9 in Interstate Cybercrime Racket After ₹70,000 Fraud
Delhi Police have arrested nine men operating an interstate cybercrime network across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh following a theft and financial fraud targeting an 88-year-old resident of West Patel Nagar. Police announced on Monday that the arrests busted a syndicate that stole mobile phones and used linked bank accounts to siphon off money.
The investigation began after the 88-year-old resident reported his mobile phone stolen on May 19 this year. Two days later, upon reissuing his SIM card, he received bank alerts showing that ₹70,000 had been withdrawn from his account across two unauthorized transactions. The victim reported the fraud on the National Cyber Crime Helpline, leading police to register a First Information Report on July 23.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh, the investigation exposed an interstate network with operations spanning Jaipur, Meerut, and Ghaziabad. Police established that the syndicate functioned through three distinct modules.
The first module comprised street operatives who stole mobile phones from victims. The second module included technical handlers running a call centre in Rajasthan, where experts logged into victims' bank accounts to route unauthorized transfers into mule accounts. The third module, based in Meerut and Ghaziabad, provided mule bank accounts, point of sale (POS) machines, and fake SIM cards used to liquidate the funds through POS devices and online channels.
During the crackdown, police recovered ₹4 lakh in cash, 52 mobile phones, 145 SIM cards, 70 debit cards, six POS machines, six laptops and tablets, and four high-speed internet routers.
Police identified the five suspects arrested from Jaipur as Nikhil Soni (26), Abhishek Kumar Jha (23), Anand Sah Sonar (26), Prince Sah Sonar (20), and Bishkek Kumar Jha (21). The four other arrested men were identified as Amar Jatav (23), Harsh (23), Mohan (24), and Vashu (19), from Hapur, Ghaziabad, and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
