Delhi Police Apprehend 74, Seize 20 Firearms in Rohini Crime Crackdown
Delhi Police apprehended 74 individuals and seized 20 illegal firearms during a major four-day crackdown against organised and street crime across Rohini between September 17 and 20. Around 300 police personnel were deployed across the district to execute the targeted operation, officials said on Monday.
In operations targeting weapons offenses under the Arms Act, police apprehended 28 accused individuals and two minors. The recoveries included 17 country-made pistols, three sophisticated pistols—including an Italian Beretta—along with 31 live cartridges and two empty cartridges. Officers also seized six button-activated knives, a car, an SUV, and a scooter.
Among the suspects arrested under the Arms Act was a 20-year-old man allegedly linked to the Kranti gang, which police said was operating on behalf of an overseas syndicate. He was found in possession of an Italian semi-automatic Beretta pistol and five live cartridges. Two other men allegedly connected to a local gang working for an overseas syndicate were also arrested, yielding two sophisticated pistols and seven live rounds. In a separate operation, police arrested four alleged members of an organised buffalo theft gang from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, who are accused of stealing more than 100 buffaloes from Rohini and Outer North districts.
The special drive also targeted illicit drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of five people and the confiscation of 801 grams of heroin, 104 grams of morphine, 17 grams of cocaine, and 30 buprenorphine and naloxone tablets. Those detained included a 33-year-old Senegalese national allegedly supplying cocaine and a 51-year-old alleged narcotics supplier identified as a parole jumper previously declared a proclaimed offender in an NDPS case. Police also arrested a 60-year-old man found with 300 grams of heroin and ₹3 lakh in cash, another suspect carrying 501 grams of heroin, and an individual caught by the Narcotics Squad with 1.2 lakh counterfeit cigarette sticks.
In further enforcement actions during the drive, officers registered 10 cases under the Excise Act and arrested 10 alleged bootleggers. Eleven gambling cases were filed, resulting in the arrest of 27 people and the recovery of ₹1,75,650 in staked cash.
Additionally, police arrested six proclaimed offenders and apprehended a man who had allegedly been absconding in a murder case. The Cyber Police also dismantled an alleged interstate matrimonial fraud call centre, arresting two women from Chhattisgarh and seizing four mobile phones alongside registers containing relevant details.
