Delhi Plans 150 MBBS Seats at New Dwarka Medical College in Seat Expansion

The Delhi government has formulated a plan to significantly expand medical education capacity across the capital, including the addition of 150 MBBS seats at a new medical college coming up alongside Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka.

The phased expansion strategy encompasses undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-speciality medical courses. According to official plans, the increase in capacity will be achieved through establishing new medical colleges, expanding existing institutions, and introducing additional postgraduate and advanced medical programmes across the city.

Under the new college development component of the proposal, facilities being built alongside Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka and Guru Gobind Singh Hospital are each slated to offer 150 MBBS seats. Together, these two upcoming institutions will generate 300 new undergraduate medical seats for aspiring students in Delhi.

Existing institutions are also scheduled for intake upgrades. The MBBS seat count at Dr BSA Medical College and Hospital is proposed to rise from 125 to 200 seats. In dental education, the BDS capacity at the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) is slated to increase from 50 to 70 seats.

At the postgraduate level, the expansion plan includes adding 35 seats at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), raising the institution's postgraduate capacity from its current level of 260 seats.
