Delhi Parents Body Flags Safety Risks from Dug-Up Roads Near Delhi Cantt Schools
The Delhi Parents Association raised serious concerns on Monday over ongoing construction work and excavated roads surrounding three schools in Delhi Cantonment, warning that the hazardous conditions pose severe safety risks to students.
In a representation submitted to authorities, the association called for time-bound intervention to fix dangerous stretches around KV No. 2 and two other nearby schools. According to the group, ongoing excavation and construction activities have left several road stretches uneven, with loose stones and construction debris scattered across the primary routes used by children to reach their classes.
The association noted that photographs from the area highlighted the daily safety hazards faced by students navigating the dug-up roads during school hours.
While clarifying that it does not oppose infrastructure development, the association emphasised that safe access to educational institutions must remain a priority. It demanded that authorities conduct a site inspection within 48 hours to assess the ground realities.
Among its key demands, the parents' body sought the immediate creation of safe pedestrian corridors, proper barricading, and visible warning signs around all excavated areas. It also urged officials to regulate construction activity during morning arrival and afternoon dispersal hours to prevent accidents.
Additionally, the association called for strict accountability regarding any lapses in civic coordination or safety planning, directing responsible agencies to enforce child safety protocols and submit a detailed action-taken report within seven working days.
"Development cannot come at the cost of children’s safety. Preventive safety must be ensured before an accident occurs, not after a child gets injured," the association stated in its appeal to the administration.
