Delhi Master Plan 2047 Proposes Strategic Transit Link to Jewar Airport

The central government has notified the Master Plan for Delhi 2047, which outlines plans to boost connectivity between the capital and the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar through dedicated transit links and multimodal networks.

Under the newly notified framework, the plan proposes a new corridor identified as Strategic Link Two. This corridor is planned as an extension of the Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) network from the Dwarka side towards Noida, Greater Noida, and Jewar. The proposal aims to accommodate both passenger and cargo movement across the National Capital Region.

The Master Plan states that strategic links should, wherever feasible, be developed as mass transit corridors. This approach leaves scope for rail-based or other public transport systems, offering travellers moving between Delhi and Jewar Airport an alternative to private vehicles and commercial cabs.

In addition to road and rail connections towards Jewar, the document calls for seamless multimodal connectivity between Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Noida International Airport. The planning framework notes that the emergence of Jewar Airport, alongside industrial corridors and dedicated freight corridors, is expected to reshape travel and freight patterns across the region.

The Master Plan 2047 also introduces futuristic and emergency mobility options into Delhi's long-term transport planning framework. For the first time, air taxis and air pods have been listed among transport modes that could be considered in coming decades, though no specific routes, operators, or timelines have been finalised.

For emergency response and medical evacuation, the plan includes provisions allowing major hospitals and high-rise buildings to construct rooftop helipads, subject to building and aviation safety regulations.
