Delhi Logs 227.2mm Rain in August as Showers Across Pusa and Chhatarpur Improve Air Quality

Rain continued to lash Delhi on Friday, taking the capital's total rainfall for August to 227.2mm, with areas such as Pusa and Chhatarpur recording the highest precipitation during the day. The persistent wet spell provided relief from high temperatures and significantly improved the city's air quality.

The Delhi air quality index (AQI) dropped to a daily average of 98 on Friday, placing the capital in the satisfactory category, according to official data. The improvement in air quality followed widespread showers that swept across various parts of the city throughout the day.

Between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Friday, Pusa recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 30mm, followed by Chhatarpur with 24.5mm. Other parts of the capital also received steady showers, including Narayana with 10mm, Palam with 8.4mm, and Mayur Vihar with 8mm. Ayanagar recorded 7mm, Lodi Road logged 3.2mm, Janakpuri registered 3mm, and Delhi Ridge recorded 1.8mm of rain during the same nine-hour window.

At the Safdarjung weather station, which serves as Delhi’s primary base station, 5.8mm of rain was recorded between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Friday. This took the station's total August rainfall count to 226.6mm, bringing it close to the India Meteorological Department's long-period average of 233.1mm for the entire month.

The maximum temperature in the capital stood at 30.5°C on Friday. Weather officials noted that temperatures across Delhi are expected to remain below 35°C for the next six days.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast multiple spells of very light to light rain for Saturday. Similar weather conditions are predicted to persist from Sunday through Tuesday under generally cloudy skies. The department has not issued any rain-related alerts for the coming days.
