Delhi-Kathmandu Bus Service Continues From Delhi Gate Despite Nepal Floods

The Delhi Transport Corporation's international bus service linking Delhi and Kathmandu continues to operate as scheduled from the Ambedkar Stadium Terminal near Delhi Gate, even as devastating flash floods hit parts of Nepal, a senior transport department official confirmed on Wednesday.

According to transport authorities, operations along the cross-border transit corridor remain unaffected for now, though officials are actively tracking conditions on the ground.

"There is no suspension of bus service between the two countries, and operations are going on smoothly. Further decisions will be taken depending on the situation," the senior transport department official said.

The Delhi-Kathmandu-Delhi service runs three days a week, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Scheduled buses depart from the terminal in Delhi at 10:00 am, journeying through Uttar Pradesh before crossing into Nepal at the Sonauli border check-post located near Gorakhpur.

First launched by the Delhi government in 2014, the bus route serves as a regular passenger link between the two neighboring countries. Transport officials noted that any potential changes to the timetable or route would depend entirely on emerging conditions in the affected regions.

The DTC's decision to maintain regular operations follows severe weather in Nepal, where torrential flash floods swept through several districts on Wednesday. The floodwaters originated in Tibet before surging downstream into the Bhote Koshi River at around 9:00 am local time.

The resulting disaster in Nepal has caused significant casualties, with at least 72 people confirmed dead. Furthermore, nearly 500 people, including 133 Indian nationals, have been reported missing.
