Delhi High Court, IGI Airport T3 Receive Hoax Bomb Threats Ahead of I-Day
Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, the Delhi High Court, and multiple government offices received hoax bomb threat emails on Friday morning, triggering security operations a day ahead of Independence Day.
According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the Delhi Cantonment Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office received a bomb threat email at 11:18 am, followed by an alert for IGI Terminal 3 at 11:32 am. Further threat emails were reported at Jamnagar House at 11:40 am, the Saket SDM office at 11:42 am, and a building in Jhandewalan at 11:57 am.
Following the alerts, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog teams, and DFS personnel deployed to the flagged locations to conduct extensive search operations. DFS officials confirmed that no suspicious items were found at any of the sites and all threats were declared hoaxes.
Later in the day, the Delhi High Court received a threatening email claiming that a blast would take place at 2:11 pm. Teams from multiple security agencies, including bomb disposal units, inspected the court complex thoroughly but found nothing suspicious. Delhi High Court Bar Association Joint Secretary Kunal Malhotra said the court took necessary precautions as security was stepped up across the premises.
Police stated that an investigation is currently underway to trace the source of the emails. The incidents occurred during a period of heightened security across the National Capital Region, where multiple agencies have been carrying out checks at sensitive installations ahead of Saturday's Independence Day celebrations.
The threats follow a series of similar hoaxes in the region. On August 3, multiple schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email, while on July 31, the Gurugram Deputy Commissioner's office, district courts, and schools were evacuated and searched after receiving similar threat emails.
