Delhi Govt Retains Power to Revise Lakshmi Yojana Recurring Deposit Maturity Date
The Delhi government has kept the maturity period of recurring deposits under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana open to revision, allowing the council of ministers to modify the current July 31, 2029 deadline following a review after two years, according to official documents from the Women and Child Development Department.
The scheme, which was launched at an event at Talkatora Stadium, was approved for an initial tenure of three years starting from August 1, 2026. Under the initiative, eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60 are slated to receive ₹2,500 per month starting September 1, structured under two payout options.
Under the first option, ₹1,500 of the monthly assistance will be deposited into a recurring deposit, while the remaining ₹1,000 will be transferred through a Central Bank Digital Currency wallet. The digital currency wallet will carry spending restrictions barring purchases from a negative list, including alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, lottery tickets, and gambling or betting services. Under the second option, the entire ₹2,500 monthly benefit will be deposited directly into a recurring deposit. Both deposit options are currently scheduled to mature on July 31, 2029.
According to the official notification, the date of maturity of the recurring deposit can be subsequently altered by the council of ministers following an assessment of the scheme two years from its launch date. This review, scheduled for mid-2028, provides the government flexibility to prepone the maturity date or restructure deposit arrangements before the three-year tenure concludes.
An official explained that the flexibility clause was introduced because the scheme is being implemented for the first time. The review will allow the government to address any operational issues or glitches faced by beneficiaries and adjust the financial assistance structure as needed.
Guidelines also state that applicants lacking an Aadhaar card can register using an Aadhaar enrolment slip alongside alternative identity documents such as a voter ID, PAN card, ration card, passport, or driving licence. The Women and Child Development Department will facilitate Aadhaar enrolment through its district offices for those not yet registered.
