Delhi Govt Probes Death of 12-Year-Old Student in East Vinodnagar School

The Delhi government has initiated an investigation into the death of a 12-year-old student after her family alleged that she was scolded and assaulted by a teacher at a Delhi government school in East Vinodnagar.

The Class VII student died on August 27. Her family raised allegations on Monday, claiming that she had been scolded and beaten up by a teacher on July 22, which caused her condition to deteriorate over the following weeks and led to her death.

In response to the allegations, the teacher has been transferred with immediate effect to ensure that the official probe is conducted fairly and without interference, according to Education Minister Ashish Sood.

According to the police, the student suffered from epilepsy. Police officials noted that no complaint had been filed against the school teacher during the nearly 40-day period between the alleged classroom incident on July 22 and the girl's death on August 27.

Police stated that the family cremated the child on the day she died and only contacted east Delhi's Kalyanpuri police station on Monday to report their allegations against the teacher.

The family claimed that during the July 22 incident, the girl was scolded by the teacher for not bringing a book and was ordered to stand at the back of the classroom. The family stated that she was unwell at the time. School authorities called the family to take her home, and she was later taken to a hospital for treatment.

The student's mother alleged that the incident left her daughter severely distressed, claiming the treatment in the classroom led to depression before her health worsened.
