Delhi Govt Plans Drone and Semiconductor Policy Rollout by October
The Delhi government is planning to roll out dedicated drone and semiconductor policies by late September or mid-October, with draft frameworks set to be submitted to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, officials said on Saturday. As part of the initiative, the administration plans to set up a dedicated drone ecosystem in Narela.
Officials stated that the twin policies aim to promote emerging technologies, draw private investment, and generate employment opportunities across the Capital.
Outlining the approval process, officials explained that the draft policies will first be sent to Gupta. Following that review, the documents will be made available for public feedback before being presented to the Delhi Cabinet. Once cleared by the Cabinet, the policies will be forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor for final clearance.
Under the proposed Drone Policy, the government intends to encourage drone adoption and build a supportive industrial framework in the city. The policy aims to support drone manufacturers, startups, training institutions, and related operations. Officials noted that drones are increasingly deployed across sectors such as surveillance, mapping, agriculture, delivery logistics, emergency services, and infrastructure inspection.
To support this initiative, the Delhi government will write to the Delhi Development Authority seeking land in Narela specifically for establishing the drone hub. Officials noted that a dedicated ecosystem would encourage more companies and startups to operate within the sector.
Alongside the drone framework, the draft Semiconductor Policy is structured around five strategic pillars: semiconductor design and intellectual property development; research, development, and innovation; manufacturing-enabling operations, including Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing; development of ancillary industries; and talent development, skilling, and startup ecosystem strengthening.
Officials added that specific incentives and benefits under both frameworks will be detailed once the draft policies complete the full administrative and cabinet approval process.
