Delhi Food Safety Officials Destroy 508 kg Spurious Paneer in Okhla

The Delhi Food Safety Department destroyed approximately 508 kg of spurious paneer on Monday after seizing the consignment during an inspection at the Okhla Sabzi Mandi. The operation was carried out as part of a targeted two-day enforcement drive launched across the capital ahead of Raksha Bandhan.

Following the operation, the department stated that legal action has been initiated against violators under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, along with the applicable rules and regulations governing food safety standards.

As part of the wider enforcement exercise, departmental officials also collected 22 enforcement samples of various food items from multiple districts throughout Delhi. The department confirmed in an official statement that all collected food samples have been dispatched to designated laboratories for testing and analysis.

Addressing the drive, Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted that ensuring food safety remains an administrative priority, especially during the festive season when market demand for dairy products, paneer, sweets, edible oils, and other food items increases significantly.

“Every family has the right to enjoy festive food without worrying about its safety. The Delhi Government will take strict action against those who compromise with food quality or put the health of citizens at risk,” Mr. Singh said.

The minister noted that adequate teams have been deployed in each district of Delhi to maintain regular surveillance. These teams are tasked with carrying out inspections, gathering food samples, and monitoring various food establishments, wholesale markets, and supply points.

According to the Food Safety Department, rigorous checks and monitoring measures will continue across the city in the coming days. The ongoing campaign remains focused on keeping track of the food supply chain to prevent unsafe and substandard products from reaching consumers.
