Delhi Crime Branch Nabs Man in Narela Over Assam Narcotics Network Links

Delhi Police's Crime Branch has apprehended a 27-year-old man in Narela for his alleged involvement in an interstate narcotics syndicate suspected of having connections with an active cadre of the banned separatist outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

The accused, identified as Apurba Thakur, was tracked down in the Narela area after Delhi Police carried out technical and manual surveillance. The operation was launched following a specific request received from the Assam Police on August 25. Investigators alleged that Thakur was responsible for supplying psychotropic tablets from Delhi to the broader interstate network.

Following his apprehension, Thakur was handed over to a visiting team from the Assam Police. He was arrested in connection with an existing case registered at the Mathurapur police station in Assam's Charaideo district under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as well as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) HGS Dhaliwal, the cross-state investigation began on July 17 when Assam Police intercepted a vehicle on Dhodor Ali Road in Majgaon. During that search, officers recovered 46.11 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside soap boxes placed in a hidden compartment of the car. The occupant of the vehicle, identified as Manuj Gogoi, was arrested at the scene.

Subsequent interrogation and continued investigation by the police led to the arrest of additional suspects. Through these inquiries, investigators uncovered alleged links to Mridupawan Dahutia, an active member of ULFA-I who is believed to have joined the banned group in 2011.
