Delhi Court Acquits Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in Sexual Harassment Case
The Rouse Avenue court in New Delhi acquitted former BJP Member of Parliament and ex-Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, alongside co-accused Vinod Tomar, in a sexual harassment case lodged by women wrestlers. The court observed that the allegations against the accused appeared to be politically motivated and fabricated.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar of the designated MP-MLA Court delivered the verdict on August 3. The court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations, highlighting that key prosecution witnesses cited during the trial turned hostile.
Although the full text of the judgment has not been made publicly available, details reported by news agency ANI revealed that the court raised questions about the manner in which the charges were brought forward. The magistrate noted that the complainants levelled allegations simultaneously, despite the alleged incidents occurring at different times and locations.
The court also pointed out that several complainants maintained cordial personal relations with Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh even after the period of the alleged incidents. Complainants continued to interact with the former WFI chief and invited him to family functions and wedding ceremonies, a factor the court noted raised doubts regarding the reliability and credibility of the accusations.
