Delhi CM Rekha Gupta to Hand Over Lakshmi Yojana Approval Letters to 4,000 Women

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will distribute approval letters to 4,000 women under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on Wednesday in New Delhi, marking a key milestone in the rollout of the financial support scheme.
Following the distribution of approval letters, the Delhi government will commence disbursing monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries starting September 1. The initiative aims to provide targeted economic support to eligible women across the capital.
“Every eligible woman in Delhi must receive what is rightfully hers... Your dignity, safety, financial independence and self-reliance are at the heart of our governance,” Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated in a post on X regarding the scheme's implementation.
The Delhi government initially opened applications for the scheme on August 1. Over the course of 25 days, a total of 9,13,495 women registered for the initiative, with 6,52,223 completing and submitting their final applications for verification and enrollment.
Under the guidelines of the scheme, the monthly financial assistance will be provided to eligible women aged between 21 and 60 years. The benefit is designated specifically for the eldest eligible woman in a family. To qualify, an applicant must have resided in Delhi for at least 10 years, possess a valid voter identification card, and belong to a family with an annual household income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh.
The scheme also outlines specific exclusion criteria. Women who pay income tax, are currently employed by the government, receive government pensions, or are recipients of any other pension scheme are not eligible to receive the benefit.
Additionally, applicants from households where any family member is a government employee are excluded. Eligibility is also barred for women who own a four-wheeler, have more than three children, or consume more than 2,400 units of electricity on an annual basis. Individuals with a criminal record are disqualified from the scheme as well.
