Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Leads Yamuna Ghat Cleanliness Drive In Chilla Village

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta joined hands with volunteers, youth groups, social organisations, and local residents for a cleanliness drive at the Yamuna Ghat in Chilla village, New Delhi. The civic event was organised under the 'Clean Delhi with CM' campaign, which focuses on public participation in environmental conservation.
During the drive, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that restoring the Yamuna river requires a shared commitment. She pointed out that the river, which has been revered by millions of people for centuries, currently faces a grave pollution challenge. According to Ms. Gupta, addressing this environmental crisis requires "collective action" by the government and citizens alike.
In her address to the volunteers and residents at Chilla village, Ms. Gupta stated that the government is actively pursuing a scientific and sustainable rejuvenation of the Yamuna. She explained that the administration is focusing on long-term infrastructure improvements to systematically clean the river.
"The government is modernising sewage treatment plants, expanding the sewer network, and tapping drains flowing into the river in a phased manner," Chief Minister Gupta said during the event.
The cleanliness drive aimed to promote direct collaboration between government initiatives and citizen-led action. By engaging local youth groups, social organisations, and residents of Chilla village, the campaign highlighted the role of community participation alongside state-level engineering solutions to tackle river pollution.
