Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Rolls Back Work From Home For Government Employees

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday, July 4, 2026, ordered the complete rollback of work-from-home measures and staggered office timings for Delhi government offices. The administrative decision means that Delhi government employees will return to their regular, in-person office schedules, ending a temporary policy that allowed them to work remotely.

The work-from-home measures were originally introduced for Delhi government offices in May 2026. Under that previous order, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had directed government offices to implement work-from-home protocols for two days of the week, specifically on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Staggered office timings were also put in place for government employees at the time to manage the transition.

The policy was first enacted in May, coming just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced a major austerity push. The Prime Minister's directive was designed to conserve energy across the country, keeping in mind the war in Iran and its potential impact on energy resources.

According to the Delhi Chief Minister's office, the geopolitical situation has since improved, making the energy-saving measures and remote work schedules unnecessary. The decision to withdraw the remote-work system and the staggered timings was officially approved by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday.

"Now that the geopolitical situation has practically normalised. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved withdrawal of work from home on Wednesday and Saturday," the Chief Minister's office stated in an official announcement on Saturday.

With this rollback order, all affected Delhi government employees are expected to transition back to their standard, in-person working hours. The temporary measures, which were aimed at energy conservation during the international conflict, have now been officially concluded, and regular office operations will resume.
