Delhi BJP Observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day at Kashmere Gate
The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14 by holding commemorative seminars across all 14 of its organisational districts, including an event organised by its Chandni Chowk district at Kashmere Gate.
The seminar at Kashmere Gate was organised in association with social organisation Madhyam – Ek Vichar. Harsh Malhotra, president of the party's Delhi unit, addressed the gathering and paid tribute to the families who continue to carry the pain and memories of Partition.
Speaking at the event, Malhotra stated that the Partition was not merely about the division of land, but of relationships, culture, and a shared heritage built over centuries. He shared a personal reflection, recalling that his own grandfather had to leave behind an ancestral shop in Lahore during the upheaval.
Malhotra highlighted the resilience of refugees who rebuilt their lives from scratch while remaining dedicated to serving the nation. He remarked that working towards a "One India, Great India" would serve as a fitting tribute to those ancestors.
Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal also addressed the gathering at Kashmere Gate. Khandelwal noted that millions of families living in Delhi had ancestors who were forced to leave everything behind in cities such as Lahore, Karachi, and Sialkot.
Khandelwal added that showing respect to those scarred by the events of 1947 and dedicating efforts to building a "Shreshtha Bharat" would be a true homage to the people who endured the horrors of Partition.
