Delhi Approves ₹1,668 Crore Ambedkar University Campus In Dheerpur

The Delhi government’s expenditure finance committee on Wednesday approved the construction of a new state-of-the-art campus for Dr BR Ambedkar University Delhi in Dheerpur, north Delhi. The project, which is estimated to cost ₹1,668 crore, aims to expand access to quality, modern, and future-ready higher education in the national capital.
The meeting of the expenditure finance committee was chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who announced that the project has already secured several key statutory clearances. These include crucial approvals from the Delhi Urban Art Commission and the Delhi Fire Service, which officials expect will facilitate a smooth and timely implementation of the construction.
Spanning across nearly 20 hectares (50 acres) in Dheerpur, the new campus will be developed in multiple phases. Once fully completed, the university campus is expected to accommodate approximately 8,000 students, significantly boosting the institution's capacity.
In the first phase of development, the government plans to build academic facilities designed to cater to 5,400 students. The initial phase of construction will also include the development of hostel accommodation capable of housing 840 students, alongside dedicated residential facilities for the university's faculty and staff members.
The proposed campus will feature a variety of modern amenities to create a contemporary, inclusive, and future-oriented learning environment. Among the planned structures are modern academic blocks, administrative buildings, a central library, and various student amenities. The campus will also house a 2,500-seat auditorium, sports infrastructure, and ample parking facilities.
In terms of environmental sustainability, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the campus is being developed in line with a GRIHA 5-Star Rating. To achieve this standard, the project will incorporate renewable energy solutions, specifically utilizing solar and geothermal energy to power the campus facilities.
