Dead lizard found in mid-day meal at Hari Nagar school prompts police investigation

The Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) after a dead lizard was discovered in a mid-day meal container at the government-run Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya co-ed school in L-block, Hari Nagar, West Delhi. The incident occurred on Friday morning, prompting school authorities to immediately halt the distribution of the food.

The meal, which was meant for students in the school's upper primary wing, had been delivered to the campus by an unnamed non-governmental organisation (NGO) in a vehicle at around 9 am. Following the delivery, the school administration and staff took possession of the food packages to prepare for distribution to the children.

According to police officials, the presence of the dead lizard was first detected by the staff member in charge of handing over the food packages to the students. Upon spotting the dead lizard inside the container, the staff member immediately raised an alarm, ensuring that none of the children consumed the contaminated meal.

Following the discovery, the school administration contacted the Hari Nagar police station to report the matter. Officers arrived at the scene and subsequently registered an FIR in connection with the incident.

The Delhi Police stated that no arrests have been made in connection with the case so far. However, investigators have questioned officials from the NGO responsible for preparing and delivering the food. The questioning aims to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the lizard ending up in the mid-day meal container.
