Dadri police rescue truck driver after Meta flags suicide threat video

On June 30, the Uttar Pradesh Police successfully rescued a 38-year-old truck driver in Dadri, Greater Noida, just 20 minutes after he posted a suicide threat video on Facebook and Instagram. The rapid rescue operation was triggered by an automated safety alert from Meta, which allowed law enforcement to track and intercept the man's vehicle before he could carry out his threat.
The emergency began at 10:57 am when Meta sent an automated email alert about the social media post to the Social Media Centre at the Uttar Pradesh Police headquarters. The 38-year-old driver had uploaded the video expressing his intent to end his life after leaving his home in distress following a fight with his wife regarding their married daughter.
Following the alert, the Director General of Police ordered officials to immediately trace the man’s location. The real-time coordinates were quickly shared with the Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissionerate’s media cell.
In Noida, Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh took charge of coordinating the response. By 11:14 am, officials at the Dadri police station received a direct call from the media cell, as the driver's tracked location fell within the limits of their jurisdiction.
What followed was a tense 20-minute pursuit by local officers to intercept the moving truck. Police tracked the driver's live location in real time and moved swiftly to stop the vehicle on the road.
After successfully flagging down the truck, responding officers located the driver, who was exhibiting visible signs of severe emotional distress. Officers safely escorted him out of the vehicle and gave him water to drink.
An officer who was part of the search team stated that they spoke with the man calmly in order to stabilize him. Once he calmed down, the driver admitted to the police that ongoing disputes with his wife had left him deeply distressed. He told officers that if they had not reached him in time, he would have parked the truck at a secluded place and ended his life.
Following the successful intervention, the police contacted the driver's family members, briefed them on the situation and the social media alerts, and safely handed him over to their care.
