Crime Branch Arrests Man Wanted in Alipur Rioting and Firing Case

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a man wanted in connection with a rioting and attempt-to-murder case in Alipur, nearly a year after he fled following a violent clash and firing incident linked to an ancestral property dispute.

The arrested accused has been identified as Shantanu, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana. According to police, he had been on the run since October 30, when violence broke out at Ramjanpur village in the Alipur area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora stated that Shantanu was part of a mob of 30 to 40 people that gathered at a plot in Ramjanpur village and attacked a local family over a disputed piece of ancestral land. During the confrontation, approximately 10 to 12 rounds were fired, leaving several people injured.

Police said the incident began when the complainant spotted several individuals attempting to break the lock of his 1,000-square-yard ancestral plot. When the complainant and his family members objected to the trespass, they were allegedly assaulted by the group.

The altercation escalated rapidly when a larger mob armed with wooden sticks and iron rods arrived at the scene. The mob attacked the family members and vandalised the complainant's house before opening fire.

Following the violence, an FIR was registered at the Alipur police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.

Investigators had previously tracked down and arrested multiple accused involved in the assault, including individuals identified as Deepak and Sandeep. However, Shantanu had managed to evade arrest and remained absconding until the Crime Branch traced and apprehended him.
