Connaught Place Picked as Alternate Route for Thursday Red Fort Rehearsal Closures

Delhi Traffic Police has announced major traffic diversions and road closures around the Red Fort from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday for the Independence Day full-dress rehearsal, directing north-south commuters to use alternate routes passing through Connaught Place.

The dress rehearsal is expected to disrupt traffic movement across central and north Delhi. Traffic officials confirmed that only authorised vehicles will be permitted near key landmarks, including India Gate, as well as designated stretches of Ring Road and Outer Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate.

To facilitate north-south traffic movement during the closures, the police advised commuters to use an alternate corridor through Connaught Place, Minto Road, Bhavbhuti Marg, Ajmeri Gate, Shradahanand Marg, Lahori Gate Chowk, Naya Street, Peeli Kothi, and S.P. Mukherjee Marg.

Another designated option for north-south transit includes Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, Panchkuian Road, and Rani Jhansi Road.

For commuters traveling east-west, designated corridors include routes through Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapulla Road, Ashram, and Ring Road. In addition, the DND-NH24 (NH9)-Yudhister Setu-Signature Bridge-Wazirabad Bridge corridor will remain open to allow access to Ring Road.

Vehicle-specific restrictions are also being enforced across the city network. Goods vehicles will not be allowed to operate between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge.

Inter-state buses will be restricted between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT from midnight on August 12 until 11 a.m. on August 13.

Local public buses, including Delhi Transport Corporation buses, will be barred from operating on Ring Road between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and the Ring Road-NH24 (NH9)/NH1 point at Nizamuddin Khatta from midnight on August 12 until 10 a.m. on August 13, with buses being redirected to secondary routes. Both the Old Iron Bridge and the Geeta Colony Bridge leading towards Shanti Van will remain closed to traffic.
