Congress Offers Legal Aid To Protesters Following Clashes In Connaught Place

The Congress party announced on Tuesday that it will provide legal assistance to students and youth who were arrested, detained, or allegedly assaulted during the 'Chalo Sansad' protest march. The demonstration, which took place on Monday, July 20, resulted in clashes and subsequent police action across the national capital, including the Connaught Place area.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh confirmed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed its legal team to extend all possible support to the affected protesters. To facilitate this, the party has shared a Google form link for those seeking legal representation.

Ramesh urged anyone requiring legal assistance in connection with the paper leak protests to fill out the form. Once submitted, Congress representatives will contact the individuals to coordinate legal support.

The move by the opposition party follows a day of significant violence and vandalism during the march on Monday. The protest, organized under the CJP's 'Chalo Sansad' banner, was held to highlight grievances surrounding a paper leak issue.

According to official figures released by the Delhi Police, the clashes on Monday left more than 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters injured. The violence also resulted in significant property damage, with over 20 police vehicles damaged during the unrest.

In the wake of the clashes, the Delhi Police registered four First Information Reports (FIRs) and began the process of filing two additional cases. These FIRs have been registered at several local police stations, including Parliament Street and Connaught Place.

The police sources indicated that the registered cases invoke various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Following the violence, security has been tightened across the national capital to prevent further escalation.
