Congress, BJP Spar Over Purported Parliament Waterlogging as Rain Hits Delhi

Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of New Delhi on Tuesday morning, triggering severe waterlogging at the AIIMS flyover loop, disrupting traffic across multiple stretches, and sparking a political exchange between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party over alleged waterlogging at the Parliament building.

Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury posted videos on X purportedly showing water dripping inside the new Parliament building and waterlogging outside amid the morning downpour. Criticising the Centre, Chowdhury stated, "New Parliament of New India -- Requires boats not votes." However, one of the videos shared by Chowdhury showing water dripping inside the Parliament building dated back to August 2024.

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari rejected the claims and termed the footage "fake news." Responding on X, Bhandari stated, "This video is not from Parliament! Congress is a Fake News Factory!"

The exchange took place as downpours affected several parts of the national capital. According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi recorded heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 11 cm on Tuesday.

Rainfall and waterlogging were reported across prominent city locations, including AIIMS, Bhikaji Cama Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, RK Puram Sector 1, and Shanti Path. The capital remained heavily clouded following intense showers recorded a day earlier.

The India Meteorological Department forecast a generally cloudy sky for Wednesday, with very light to light rain expected at a few places from morning to noon.
